The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
The CDCP is making dental care more affordable for eligible Canadians.
Applications are now open for:
- Seniors aged 65 and older
- Children under 18 years of age
- Adults with a valid federal Disability Tax Credit certificate for 2023
Note: All remaining eligible residents (not in one of the above groups) can apply starting in 2025.
Eligibility Requirements:
- You don’t have access to dental insurance.
- You and your spouse/common-law partner must file Canadian tax returns to assess your family income for the previous year.
- Your adjusted family net income must be under $90,000.
- You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes.
Important Notes:
To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all eligibility criteria.
If You Have Government Dental Coverage:
You can still qualify for the CDCP even if you’re covered under a provincial, territorial, or federal social program. Coverage will be coordinated to avoid duplication or gaps.
Will CDCP cover the full cost of treatment?
No, the CDCP reimburses part of the treatment cost. You may have to pay additional charges if:
Your family income is between $70,000–$89,999.
The treatment cost exceeds CDCP limits.
You choose services not covered by the CDCP.
Do I need to pay upfront?
No, but you may need to pay any extra charges not covered by the CDCP.
FAQ
Will CDCP Cover Orthodontic Treatment Costs?
Not yet! Starting in 2025, the CDCP will include orthodontic services. These treatments will only be covered for medical needs based on strict guidelines, and there will be a spending limit for coverage.
