Orthodontic Wax– What is it?

Orthodontic Wax

Orthodontic wax has been made to relieve discomfort caused by orthodontic appliances like braces & wires, and auxiliary hooks, tubes, and ligatures.

Orthodontic wax is recommended by Dr. Nima Mir for relief from the pain and irritation that can be caused by braces, wires, and other orthodontic appliances.

The wax protects cheeks, lips, and gums by creating a barrier that protects the inner mouth from the sharp end of wires and other potential appliance parts that may irritate.

The wax comes in a small, convenient container that can be brought around with patients wherever they go. The wax can be applied easily; just make sure your hands are clean and your teeth are brushed. Remove the wax from its container and make a small ball out of it. Place the wax over problem areas and reapply as needed. Remember to remove the wax before brushing your teeth at any point of the day.

What is Dental Wax?

Orthodontic or dental wax consists of natural materials like beeswax, carnauba, and paraffin wax. Although they are all safe and biocompatible to put in your mouth, it is not advisable to purposefully ingest or swallow any of them. Dental wax can be molded onto braces and is robust enough to remain there for a while.

As mentioned earlier, braces or orthodontic wax are designed to relieve the pain brought on by brace appliances rubbing on your inner mouth. The barrier made by the wax will stop the braces from making contact with your mouth, preventing further injury. Additionally, this barrier gives your sores more time to heal.

Why Your Orthodontist Offers Braces Wax?

The best and most convenient way to make braces comfortable and adaptable, especially during the initial stage of the treatment, is to use dental wax.

When you apply brace wax, it binds any loose pieces and covers the piercing corners of the braces. Your braces get separated from your teeth through the layer formed by orthodontic wax. This is the best mouth sore temporary treatment until you can see your orthodontist.

It’s simple to apply as well as easy to remove. For this reason, dental wax is a perfect product for both kids and adults. And on top of it all, it’s available at a very low price.

How Can We Use Dental Wax?

It’s easy to use, but before using it, you should wash your hands and brush your teeth to prevent trapping bacteria or food particles underneath the wax. Dry your braces and use a tissue if required.

Next, take a small piece of wax (around half of a pea) and roll it into a ball. Now, smooth the ball of wax and put it lightly over a troublesome area of your braces (usually the inner cheeks and lips where the brace wires are poking through). That’s all!

We recommend rolling the box for at least five seconds to warm it. A small amount of wax is enough. Avoid using a large amount of it.

It can be there as long as you need it. You can even eat, drink, and sleep with it. Dental wax is non-toxic, so if you accidentally swallow it, no special problem will happen to you. Now, just enjoy a painless brace experience.

Notes:

  • Orthodontic wax needs to be replaced after each brushing and flossing or if it starts to fall off.
  • Don’t use a piece of wax for more than two days.

What Happens If Dental Wax Is Ineffective?

Every orthodontic treatment causes some sort of discomfort as it gently moves your teeth into the correct position. Over-the-counter painkillers are one of the best strategies to relieve the pain or apply a cold compress to ease swelling.

Additionally, one effective way of soothing irritated tissues is to clean them, consume cold foods and drinks, and rinse them with warm salt water. Contact your orthodontist if your soreness does not seem better or dental wax doesn’t help you after a couple of days. They will check your mouth for any unnoticed problems and make any required modifications to your braces to help you feel more comfortable with them.

Don’t forget that the result of your orthodontic treatment will be well worth the effort, despite any discomfort you may feel during the treatment. Your way to a beautiful smile and straighter teeth can be made much more comfortable with orthodontic wax for braces!

What Safety Measures Should I Take When Using Brace Wax?

As mentioned above, you should replace the wax at least every two days, otherwise, the possibility of having bacteria in your mouth and, consequently, dental decay will be increased. You should also use the new piece of wax as long as it’s coming off.

And lastly, when you want to apply a new one, first brush your teeth well.

As a sign-off, brace wax is only a short-term solution that prevents further injuries. See your orthodontist as soon as possible for long-term treatment.

How To Avoid Braces Cutting Your Cheeks?

Orthodontic wax

Dental wax is one of the effective ways to alleviate the discomfort caused by braces. Dental wax, by creating a barrier between the inside of your mouth and metal braces, will reduce further injuries and protect your mouth well from irritation.

After washing your hands and brushing your teeth, take a small amount of wax and roll it into a ball, then apply it to any troublesome part of your braces.

How To Avoid Braces Cutting Your Cheeks?

Keep your lips safe.

Unfortunately, many patients have had a common painful experience: their cheeks and lips getting cut by braces.

One of the best ways to protect your lips from being cut by metal braces is by using a lip protector. A lip protector is a flexible clear bumper that covers the front side of your bracket from one end of your mouth to the other.

While they are great for people with new braces, they are also an effective way for athletes or musicians looking for extra protection for their lips from cuts and sores but do not want a mouthguard.

Aloe Vera Rinses

There are several different types of Aloe Vera rinses that aid in the healing of any irritation brought on by braces. Additionally, Aloe Vera can help treat mouth sores, canker sores, and minor injuries inside of your mouth.
